James Hobbs

James Hobbs is a professor at Iwate Medical University. He has lived in Iwate since 1991, taught his first university class in 1995, and has been at Iwate Medical University since 2002. He teaches English to students of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing, and is an active member of the Japan Society for Medical English Education as well as a longtime JALT member. He holds an MSc from Aston University, has published research in fields ranging from task-based language teaching to medical English education, and has presented at academic conferences throughout Japan.


He is also an avid amateur bike racer and in 2017 made his TV debut on the NHK World programme Cycle Around Japan, but he has no plans to give up his day job.
